What happens if slugs get into the composter?

I'm told they may lay eggs, which you obviously wouldn't want to mulch onto your plants. But I'm also told they are good for it, because they would munch it all down quicker??

I just bought my first composter.

  1. i put slugs in my composter , i hope its ok    also i put my urine in not lots just about half-a-pint once a week

  2. It's great if they stay inside the compost bin but chances are that they might come out so place a cup of beer or water in the ground so that they come to have a drink and drown (mwahahahaha!). That's the best way to get rid of em but they will do the compost some good.

  3. Slugs eat all the stuff you don't want them to eat ie flowers, veg', put some beer in a cup in the ground, that will get rid of them.

  4. For more info on home composting go to

  5. Depends in the kind of slug. If they're black then squish them as they are the kind that will eat everything else too, they're probably just sheltering there. If they are yellow or brown then leave them. They do no harm and do just as good a job in the compost as worms do.
