I've never actually been told what loose bearings can cause. I know tight bearings wear the hub out, but what if it's too loose?

  1. Loose bearings will cause damage as well.

  2. Trackmens slack is the common term. Track racers often run their hub adjustments slightly loose and use light machine oil for lube. The wheel is as close to frictionless as you could imagine BUT it requires constant upkeep.

If you were to use grease in place of oil I don't think it would make the maintenance interval any less than the condition mentioned above. It will definitely wear the hubs, cones, and bearings faster and possibly cause brinneling on the surfaces.... not a good thing.

  3. Why do you not adjust them correctly then no damage will be done?

  4. The bearing's will not fit properly in the races and cause damage, about the same amount of damage as being too tight.
