Lets say something happens and the president falls into a coma?

Does the Vice president just assume the presidents responsibilities until the president recovers?

  1. VP takes over.

  2. According to the 25th amendment, power can be transfered temporarily to the Vice President until such time as the President indicates he can resume power. I think the President's cabinet has to approve the transfer of power back to the President.

At least that is how it worked on West Wing, lol.

Seriously though, this has been done several times when President have undergone surgery and went under general anesthesia.

  3. Ha I have never thought of that befor.... Great question.....

  4. Yes.  When Ronald Reagan was shot, GHWB took office because he was unable to fulfill his presidential duties.
