  1. they will rip it to shreds

greyhounds are "blooded" when they are young

this involves a dead rabbit or hare being used as a

tug of war between owner and dog and the dog gets the taste of blood, thats why if you see a greyhound thats retired from racing and has been adopted it will still have to wear a muzzle, because it will probably chase and kill a very small white or brown dog mistaking it for a rabbit or hare

  2. Answer is should not happen.  The rabbit is geared to be slightly  faster than the dogs can run so it cannot be caught. It it breaks during a race the race is a scratch

  3. I'm not sure if they actually catch up to it, but I once watched a race and the dog got a bit too smart for it's own good. It jumped the fence ran to the other side and waited for the rabbit. When the rabbit hit it, the poor dog died. Those things are going pretty fast!

Anyways sorry I couldn't really help, I guess what the person above me said could be right they would just scratch the race. It would have to be a bloody quick dog but.

  4. I never seen happen before, but I would assume the race would be a scratch.

  5. Infobod1st  has a PETA article for his sources.  Not true!  They are SOMETIMES trained with jackrabbits (even though it is illegal and banned by the National Greyhound Assn.) and yes they sometimes have a kitty and squirrel killing problem.  But so do some terriers.  It comes from instinct.  Man only capitalizes on that instinct with training whether it's a good or bad (Pitbulls for fighting) thing to do.

Now to answer the actual question...IF the dogs catch the arm, then it is because of an electrical malfunction.  The arm is ran by a human and doesn't get "set" to a specific speed.  If the arm fails to collapse at the finish, the dogs usually try to chew on it but they do wear muzzles so they mostly just beat at it with their muzzles. When the race is over the electricity is killed to prevent the dogs from getting electrocuted.  If a dog jums a rail and tries to attack the arm as it goes by they will most likey be electrocuted.  Same thing if they hit the rail on the inside.  Sadly this occassionally happens.

  6. They don't chase a rabbit they chase a fox and it has never happened
