  1. both above answers are good, but focus on acute effects of very high iron levels (like iron poisoning), more subtle effects of long term elevated iron (levels above normal but below toxic levels required for above mentioned symptoms) can be things like gout, diabetes, high cholesterol/triglycerides, et al, because all of these things can be caused by changes in liver function and deficiency in kidney excretion.

  2. an actuall excess of free iron in the blood (for example from red blood cells being broken down too quickly) can cause renal failure

  3. it's good

  5. Contrary to a previous response... it is a bad thing.

The body can't excrete iron very quickly. So if you take in too much iron or for anyreason cause excessive iron levels in the blood, the condition is called haemochromatosis.

Haemochromatosis, causes ectopic deposits of iron in the liver and heart predominantly. This can lead to liver dyfunction and/or carcinomas, and in the heart there can be arrythmias or even heart failure.

There are other things like erectile dysfunction and shrinking of the gonads... but I won't bore you with those.

    I hope this helps.

    Edit...
