I am getting sentenced in 2 weeks for GBH and am 99% likely going to prison. I am on a waiting list for a knee operation from a football injury. Will I still be able to have the operation when in prison? If they take me out for it what can I expect to happen?

  1. You might  You get basic  health care  .  But might have to wait for release for op    Your own fault ,,

  2. u can get the surgery while yur in prison// u will get in faster in prison just explain whats wrong and they will sort it out for you

  3. I'm a pensioner with arthritis in both knees.  I am on a very long waiting list for surgery.  I've never hurt anyone in my life, doesn't seem fair, does it?

  4. I doubt you'll stay as if you miss an apointment your off the list.

And  the nhs rules really stump me so im not sure.

  5. You will be taken care of by the prison medical system unless your condition is too difficult and then they will transport you to a hospital under guard but the condition would have to be extreme.

  6. Your surgery will be honoured in most cases and you will be under prison guard in hospital

  7. I am struggling to be sympathetic here. If you are going to prison for GBH you must have hurt someone deliberately yet you are hoping that the NHS will fix your knee problem. Perhaps if you didn't help stretch the resources of the NHS by injuring people they might have been able to see you sooner (along with everyone else).

  8. Provided the prison you are sent to is still within the catchment area of the hospital you were referred to, the appointment for the operation should be honoured. However if the prison is outside the area you will be treated just like anyone who has moved house and you will need to get the PMO to refer your more locally. Provided  he is prepared to go to a little effort and advise that the surgery has already been agreed, you should be able to be re-referred direct for the surgery, without having to go back through out patients again.

since your crime was an offence against the person, if you are sent to the hospital you must expect to be guarded while a patient.

  9. Prisons hold no right to interupt medical procedures which need to be carried out. You may need a certificate of some sort. You can be expected to be escorted to the hospital an be on watch.

  10. Are you not even thinking about the person you committed grievous bodily harm to and whether or not they are going to need surgery?

  11. i would think you will have to wait until you are less busy !

  12. It will likely depend on whether you can prove that it is a necessary operation.  If you do get to have it you can expect to be treated like a prisoner who needs to recover from an operation.

  13. They are not going to let you out of prison to allow you to go for an operation.  It is not life threatening.  You have to do your time and suffer your knee accordingly - and hopefully you will learn from it and NOT re offend.

    :)

  14. depends on your security lvl when there.. PS don't  drop the soap. gl
