  1. If you don't pay, they will simply turn it over to a collection agency who will then report it to the credit reporting agencies and send you a demand for payment.

    If you avoid them, the debt will remain on your credit report for 7 1/2 years.  If they sue you in court and win, then that becomes a judgment which stays on your credit report for 7 years and is renewable, which means it is on for another 7 years.

    Bottom line, your credit score will be in the basement, it may affect you getting a job and you will pay far more in interest on any credit you might get.

    Best bet, work out a payment plan with the hospital to avoid years and years of headaches.

    PS>  NO YOU WILL NOT FACE CRIMINAL CHARGES!!!  Unless you used false ID and name when you entered the hospital, then that is fraud.
