What happens if you don't show up for jury duty?

i got this thing in the mail saying i had to go to court for petit juror and i lost the paper with the instructions on how to get there and when it is and for what timeand i think it's the same dsy i have to bring my sister to the airport

Sorry to say but i believe it is a criminal offence to miss dury duty! it sucks, but the only way you can get out of it is if you are in hospital or are dead or something. even family berevement cant get you out of it. i hope i'm never called up! Good Luck!

I believe they can put a bench warrant out for your arrest.  As the other person stated I would contact the courts.  I don't know if your sister needing to be picked up from the airport will be a valid excuse, but it is the holidays give it a try.

they will issue a warrant for youre arrest, you dont want to do that

call the local hall of justice, im sure they will have someone there that will talk to you about it, they might even give you a different date

but otherwise if they call you you have to serve, you might be suprised and like it, i did, was really interesting seeing how things really run, plus they treat the jurors in a case like kings

its actaully pretty fun being a juror and having the both the prosecuter and defense lawyers kissing up to you )remember they want youre vote) and the judges tend to be really nice to the jurors since we can make a case go on and on if we dont reach a decision

Any type of summons for jury duty is nothing to take lightly. It is difinitely a crime not to show up for that. You need to call your clerks office and let them tell you what you need to do.I wouldn't waste anytime, because the courts are very serious about this.

Call the court clerks office, they can tell you what you need to know and do a reschedule if necessary, they aren't heartless.

If you do go, take a book. It's mostly a lot of waiting, only to be told to go home. Out of 120 people ask to attend, only about 24 are chosen.
