I want apply for this apartment that is $665 but my monthly gross income is only a little over $1600. The income requirement is 3x the rent. So is this truly a requirement, meaning my application would be denied or does this just mean i will have to pay a higher deposit or get a co-signer or something like that.

  1. co-signer is the only way

  2. Did they ask you for income documentation?  If not, than it's just a guideline, or rule of thumb.  They want you to be able to make the rent.  If you lie about your income to qualify, you may get the apartment.  BUT, how much money will you have left over after taxes, rent, utilities, car payment, credit cards for food?

A co-signer may help, but I have a feeling that co-signer will be helping you make your rent after a few months.

  3. Means you will not get the apt under any circumstances.  Better find another

  4. If your income does not meet their minimum requirement, then you will not get the apartment. In their eyes, you cannot afford the rent. You do not qualify and your application will be denied.

A higher deposit and/or co-signer will not help in this situation, you simply do not make enough income to qualify for the apartment.

  5. It means you do not get that one.  You need to look under 533, as that is a standard income requirement.

If they let some people in who do not meet the requirements, but actually require it of others then they will soon face discrimination charges.

Requirements have to be just that, REQUIREMENTS.
