  1. Yes.  Your actual contract is completed the morning you ship to basic training.  If you ditch on the way to the airport or bus then your in trouble.  Not showing up at MEPS won't hurt you, but it will get you in deep sh*t with your recruiter and you will lose your job with the service.  Most will take you back though - with whatever job they want you to take.  They cannot arrest you or anything like that.  The contract you sign at your physical is a 'reservation'.  That reservation may be canceled by either side at any time.  Read the contract that you signed at your DEP swearing in.  That 'swear in' is for your entry into the Delayed Enlistment Program, not the active military.

Your safe...  that is if you are going active military.

If your guard or reserve, your screwed.  :)

    Good luck.

  2. If you're talking about backing out, good luck with that.  You'll have MPs knocking on your door ready to escort you away.  Good luck getting any job for that matter if you bail on the military.  Once you sign that initial contract and swear in, that's it.  There's no turning back.

  3. If you do not ship out and you are supposed to go you will be AWOL after 24 hours.  After 30 days you are a deserter and in a time of war you can get the death penalty.  No you most likely will not get another job in the government, because you already have shown that you are not responsible enough.
