Obviously, your asleep, so you can't wake up. But brain activity is still going on. And it got me thinking. Dreams feel real. When we wake up, we're annoyed it's not real. If its a nightmare, we wake up frightened. But, as I said, you can't wake up if your in a coma. Do you have the same dream/nightmare throughout your whole time in the coma (could be years and years)?

That would be so scary or so good for the person in the coma. Because you would think you were still meeting your family, so wouldn't miss them. You'd even do things that only stay what they're called - dreams.

But if it's a nightmare, that's horrible. An everlasting nightmare?

I'm not 100% sure on this, that's why I asked the question. But it seems logical to me.

  1. I'm not 100% sure about coma sleep but in real sleep you go through cycles. You only dream in one of these cycles so the simple answer would be no they would not be stuck in an everlasting dream.

  2. I thought a coma was where you were unconscious, would have thought if you dreamt your heart rate would change, well people in comas have steady heart rates- normally as a machine is breathing and etc for them, so would think if they were dreaming, it would be  pretty dull dream, like watching paint dry.

  3. Thats a really good question. You would have to ask someone who has been a in a coma. They use to have this really good section on MSN. That people wrote stories about their experiences. Like when they broke a bone or had a heart attack. It was so informative. It disappeared. I would hope if I were in a coma I could dream only good dreams and live a better life than whatever caused me to be in that situation in the first place.

  4. I know its not really an answer to your question but the truth is is that we will probably never know unless we were able to ask someone who was in a coma. p.s good question though it got me really thinking .

  5. 100% logical Matt, I've often wondered the same, and often wondered about coming round after a coma, surely you would look at everyone and think...what's all the fuss about? after you've been in the maldives sunning it up with a load of beauties at your beck n call, and drinking cocktails that didn't cost nothing!

whoa   maybe you would be pissed off that you woke up and take it out on your relatives that had been lovingly waiting for you to come round???

Don't think your body/brain would allow you to go through an everlasting nightmare because you would get used to it and human's(even if a coma) would go mad and refute such input
