If someone gets charged with a misdemeanor/ felony (1, in his whole life) will it affect the chances that someone has to get into a university? What about getting a job? My friend got charged with a misdemeanor when he was about 16, and he asked me to do some research. He wants to become a Biochemical Engineer, and again he is just wondering if his misdemeanor will affect his chances of getting into a good university/ Getting a job. Anyone know any information? Please guys i really need a lot of help, thanks for your time. Worst case scenario? Will it ever come off his record?

  1. As far as schooling goes, it shouldn't affect anything.

As far as work goes, it's illegal for an employer to discriminate against an applicant just because they've been charged with a misdemeanor or felony unless they can prove that the position absolutely requires someone that does not have a misdemeanor or felony on their record.

Not sure if you can have it stricken from your record, but I want to say that when you turn 18, your record becomes clean.

  2. First, any charge you obtain at age 16 (misdemeanor or felony) is removed automatically from  your record once you turn age 18. What your friend needs to do is go to the county court clerk in the county he received the charge and request his record just to reassure himself. If, by chance it (the charge) is still there, he can file for an expungement and (being his first and only charge) the judge will (more than likely) remove it. I hope this helps.

  3. You go to jail for 20 years. Wow! I think you just set a record! Nine questions in a row about the same thing under two different identities! Was loosing 45 points worth it??

  4. For the answer above: it is definately Not illegal for a person to not hire you if you have any kind of felony, or misdemeanor. That's just not true at all.

You have asked the same question 4 times so far; worded a little differently in each. This one says, what if you get "charged" with a misdemeanor. Since I have already answered one of the others: nothing happens if you get charged. Something happens if you get convicted. But, this will not effect him in any way after he turns 18. There won't be any record of it.
