What happens if you go through a smart tag toll w/o a smart tag?

ok so my brother was driving nd he came up to a toll booth...each booth has a smart tag label above it..which i hate..nd somehow he didnt see the only exact change lane...so he accidentally got in the smart tag lane and there were 2 or 3 cars behind us...so he just drove thru nd i think alarms went off..its not like we meant 2 do that...i mean we sat there for like 10 sec thinking what to do....so whats gonna happen?

p.s. dont say **** about him..it was just a careless mistake..nd it was 10pm nd we were returnin home after a 8hr day at kings dominion

They have cameras mounted and probably got a shot of his license plate, which they will use to send you a ticket.

You may get a "bill" in the mail but I doubt it since it would cost more to send the bill than it is worth.  Please do not begin a question with "ok so".....

The systems use cameras to identify toll evaders.  The State will send a bill to the registered owner of the car for the toll plus the toll evasion fine.  How long that will take depends upon local procedures.  It can be a few days or many months for them to catch up with you.

You can often beat this if you QUICKLY call the  turnpike agency, tell them you accidentally went through the wrong lane and sign up for the program.  They'll just charge the appropriate toll to your account and drop the fine.

Toll evasion fines are often breathtakingly high, well over $100 per violation.  Call the turnpike authority quickly to resolve this!

Depending what state you're in, usually what happens is your car gets taken a picture of with the license plate, and you get a letter in the mail informing you to pay a fine to traffic court in a week or so.

they have cameras but if you don't hear anything in 10 days or so forget it..

They  got his picture he should pay more attention they will sent you a ticket. Best call them first.
