Im 17 and work at a grocery store and yesterday I took 2 packs of candy from the back where everything is stocked and there were "undercover" security guards and before I clocked out he told me stop and I showed them what was in my pockets and I told them my intentions were not to steal it because in the back people are always taking drinks so I thought it was a privelage that we can have things here and there and they let me go. Today when I went into work they called me into the managers office and I explained what happend and he told me I was suspended and they would call me monday to determine if I will still have the job. What are the chances of me getting fired.

  1. If they beleive it was a mistake, your odds of getting fired are about 99 percent.  If they don't, then it is 100 percent.

  2. So just cause you Assumed that other people were getting something to drink that it was alright for you to take something? Come on now if they jump off a 100 foot bridge would u follow along? I think not..

Your lucky they haven't pressed charges its called Employee Grazzing and its illegal alright..

    and over candy? how sad...

  3. You had the intent to leave without paying for an item.

The chances are nearly 100 percent you will be fired and there is a possibility you will be charged with a civil fine for attempting to steal.  But that is up to the store.

  4. You're toast dude.  You could have at least denied any knowledge of it and then say it was planted.  The burden of proof would be on the employer.  You just dragged some co-workers down with you for squealing on what they allegedly did.  The undercovers won't go for that one because they weren't the ones who got caught.  It was unlucky you.  On the bright side, when you do apply to another job I wouldn't recommend putting them as a reference, also they did not press criminal charges against you.  However in the next job interview if the question ever comes up about theft...it is wrong no matter the amount or value.  Lessoned learned on this one.

  5. This is a big no-no and so your chances are pretty high of getting laid off.

I do think I would call and tell you manager that you are really sorry, that you didn't mean for it to be theft, that you now see where the boundaries are with regards to privilege and you will not make this mistake again, if they will give you another chance. That from now on you will ask permission.

  6. You getting fired is very likely.Sorry.
