Question:

What happens if you overdose on Sertraline (Zoloft)?

I accidentally took a bottle of Sertraline (Trade name, Zoloft).

I was joking around, and didn't mean to actually consume the d**n thing.

There were 30 tablets, at 50MG each.

Making it 1,500MG, right?

I took it about 5 hours ago. I feel lethargic and that's really it.

I'm 5'8, and like 300lbs. I am 17.

Please do not tell me to go to the hospital, ER, or call an Emergency Helpline.

I should be alright if I'm not too bad by now, right?

If it was a fatal dosage (Obviously not the wisest), then at my height, weight and age, when should I start feeling the fatality?

Anything useful is appreciated.

  1. Zoloft can cause hallucinations and agitation, as well as sleep loss.  A man in Australia was prescribed the 50mg tablets and took 5 of them on his first night of treatment.

He killed his wife as a result of the hallucinations and agitation.

My advice would be to IMMEDIATELY contact a hospital.  Not only are you in severe danger of killing yourself, but you may even kill others.  You will start to lose the capacity to conduct reasoned thought and you will experience hallucinations and severe agitation.  Do not drive yourself to hospital, it's likely you won't be able to stay on the road as you will experience a toxic delirium - like being high.

Whatever you do, do it quickly.  You have taken an extreme overdose and you are in extreme danger.

EDIT:  I don't know how long it'll be before you start feeling the effects; I'm guessing it'll be a few hours, but to be honest, I've NEVER heard of a 1,500 mg dose of sertraline being taken all at once, so I don't actually know.

Whatever you do, good luck... if you don't go to the hospital, you will NEED it.  So will anyone else in your house.
