  1. A HD cable usually has a output shape (socket) that only HD TVs have.

I personally am getting a ps3 for my son. But I have a wide screen TV.

The ps3 didn't come with the special HD cable. But with the original red yellow and white cable.

So, your looking for a socket in the TV that doesn't exist.

  2. A cable is a "cable" and can be used in many different ways.

If the cable is HDMI, there is nothing you can do if your TV can't use it.

If it is component (R/g/b), feel free to use it as traditional composite+audio cable (say use G for "yellow" and R/B for audio)
