What happens if you put a potato in the tailpipe of a car?

Does it really explode the car?

It is pretty much impossible to jam it in there tight enough to stick.  After some pressure builds up, it shoots right out, but not like a rocket, more like a nerf bullet.  Even if it didn't, the heat would shrink it and it would pop out anyway.  Here are videos of attempts (failed) to block the exhaust.

4 of them jammed tightly one after the other will probably stick well enough to keep a car from running.  That is the worst that can happen, a car will not explode.

Assuming the exhaust system is intact and not leaking, you can stop an engine by plugging up its exhaust outlet.
