  1. How wrong, wrong octane?  Not much.  Some cars carry manufacturer recommendations to have high octane gas, so put it in as soon as you can.  It shouldn't run rough because of octane differences, but lower octane can add to knock in some engines... which could set a trouble code if it was bad enough, meaning your check engine light could illuminate.  Not likely but could happen.

If you put diesel into it, time to call the tow truck, unless it was just a tiny bit.

  2. Well it depends on weather you were supposed to use 93 octane and used 87 octane in this case, car might sputter a little, and not run as well. If were supposed to use 87 or 89 octane and you used 93 shouldn't worry,  shouldn't have a problem. If you filled up then when  you drop to 3/4 tank add lower grade to help dilute the higher octane.

  3. How wrong?

If you put diesel in gas car, better go see a mechanic QUICKLY. Same holds if you die the opposite: put gasoline in diesel vehicle.

If you just put the wrong octane gas in the car, just remember not to do it next time. The short term effects are negligible, and depending on which way you went: over, or under.

Over (you put in more octane than recommended): nothing will happen, except your wallet will feel a bit lighter.

Under (you put in less octane than recommended): nothing much will happen. Your car will run with a bit less performance, but you're unlikely to notice in regular day to day driving. Your car have sensor that can tell what type of gasoline you put in, and as you put in lesser gasoline, will r****d the timing to protect the engine, thus less power.

  4. Most modern vehicles with knock sensors will handle the various grades of pump gas without problems.  If your vehicle calls for premium and you use regular, you may notice a slight decrease in power and/or mileage.  If it calls for regular and you add premium, you will notice nothing except that you wallet will be a little lighter than necessary.  If you fuel a gasoline vehicle with diesel - well, let's just say you won't make that mistake twice (don't ask how I know this).

  5. Either a}it won't start     b} Something will break    c} It will run fine. take your pick.

  6. if you put diesel in a gas engine, or gasoline in a diesel engine, you will likely have a no start condition or severe engine damage. if you are supposed to use 87 octane, and you use 93, you just waste some money you didnt need to spend unless you are using 93 exclusively then you have problems with deposit build up. if you use 87 and you should be using 93 you might have problems with detonation.

  7. If you put 93 octane in a car that requires 87 then nothing will happen if it is done just once but you dont what to do this again because this can damage the engine.

While higher octane gas is required in some vehicles, its use is to prevent "knocking or pinging" within the engine of your vehicle.

Using a much higher octane rated gas when it is not required can cause the fuel to not burn completely.

This results in poorer fuel economy.

Some vehicles require this higher octane gas and not using it can leave one with undesirable results.
