What happens if you take thrush medication when you don't have thrush?

i'm not sure if i have vaginal thrush or not,i have some of the symptoms, but mild.. so its confusing.and jst buying the treatment could save time and an unfortable trip to the doctor. however i jst want to know if there are any side-effects to taking it if it turns out i'm wrong.

I would think it might kill helpful bacteria leaving you suseptible to some other infection.
