Question:

What happens if you use walking shoes for running?

I like to jog casually (maybe an hour or so every day around the city), and I bought a good pair of walking shoes a few days ago (New balance 743's).

Does it make a big difference if you run with walking shoes? Does it hurt your feet/legs?

Anything else I should be concerned about? Thanks for your help-

  1. People used regular shoes for ages to run in without all the fancy additions, but they found that regular shoes don't help in the impact that is created when a person hits the pavement. Science has now helped develop shoes that help prevent shin splints, back problems etc. If you only ran in them once in a while then no harm done but if you run as you say an hour a day then even a cheap pair of running shoes will help prevent problems in your back legs, ankles etc.

  2. The glue in them has a five mile an hour speed limit so if you use them for jogging, be ready for the walking shoe cruiser to sound it's siren and turn on the flashing red lights.  :)
