  1. I would suggest adopting a spayed cat from a shelter or rescue agency. Unspayed females go into heat and it can be very annoying to listen to the howling of unrequited lust. It can also be difficult to sleep through the night and she might also keep coming to you for attention and comfort. It doesn't physically hurt them to be in heat and not mated as far as I know but I have also heard that unspayed females sometimes have reproductive cancer issues which, if you can't afford to spay a cat, you will likely have trouble paying for treatment.

  2. Cats that are spayed are much happier cats in general.

They don't have that DRIVE to get a female cat to like them or anything, so they can spend more time just being them or spending time with you instead of looking out the window at the Mrs.Kitty across the street.

Also, they wont try to become so... determined to make sure everyone knows hes the boss...meaning he wont protect his territory (your house) with his urine.

About the paying... go to a local pet shelter. I have gotten it done for 50 to 75 dollars for my cats. IF you cant even pay that then you can ask about paying in small monthy dues... they will try anything to help the poor kitty!

  3. when you dont get your cat spayed then it will howl and meow all day for almost a week. You can not even touch them or there back gos up like they are hurt.

  4. She'll go into heat, make a lot of noise, and try to get out so she can get pregnant.  The urge is overwhelmingly strong.

If you can't afford spaying then can you afford all the other health care: vaccines, deworming, check ups?

Don't get a cat until you have enough saved up for all that and some extra in case of emergencies.  While you save up call around to some shelters for their adoption fees and vets for the fees for their medical care.  Many shelters will have already spayed or neutered their kittens, so be sure to ask what care the shelter has already provided.  And vet fees can vary by a lot for the basic shots and such.  It is very important to have enough money to cover all the basics before you get a kitty.

    Good luck!

  5. You may be able to get a discount voucher to have it fixed at your local county animal care and control- because of the overpopulation problem, many cities now have programs to help people with the cost of spaying.  Also, the Humane Society has free spay and neuter days and low- cost clinic days for people who can't wait for free-bee.  If you are in a small town- they may not offer these programs, but its worth looking into.

  6. I'm really not entirely sure, except if he gets out..he might get another cat pregnant. But since they're cats and not humans..they don't have to pay child support or anything so whatever.
