  1. If they can come up with the money either by selling a house or mortgaging property, then that is what they MUST DO!!!

The official rules don't really cover that aspect of the game, but if someone bid on a property and has "Some Way" of paying... then they have to pay...

The NEXT question would be...  what if they didn't have enough cash to cover their bid and also didn't have any other way of getting money???  Then, I would say, that their bid doesn't count and the person with the last highest bid would get the property.

Okay... If you want to follow what it says in the "Official Monopoly Tournament Rules"...  it says that if a player wins an auction and cannot pay, the auction is void!!  The auction is then held again, BUT the player who couldn't pay can no longer participate in the auction!!

The key there being... If they can sell a house or mortgage property... THEN THEY CAN PAY!!!

Here's the link where it states that:

  2. You can't bid.

  3. you cant have it.

  4. Here is a link to a site that has the rules for monopoly.  It should help you find the definite answer, but I don't think you can buy the house if you don't have enough money.
