  1. If you're stopped by the police and cannot produce some form of photographic identity ANYWHERE in Europe, you could have a problem. A passport is the most widely accepted form of ID.

  2. You get exterminated!!

Not very many manned border crossings at the moment.  Could change in the future. Does not mean to say that the border is not watched from both sides for illegal activities,ie illegal fuel,

  3. Why would anythig happen,Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland is ONE whole country NOT two

  4. nothing happens only you have to change your money from sterling to euro here

  5. you would not need/ have to do anything. Ive crossed loads- both ways my family crosses border for fuel-its cheaper in the south!

  6. You can go thru the border hassle free now.. walking or driving.

And yes, u need a passport to travel between EU countries. How do I know? Ive been asked for mine.

    10 points please :)

  7. You turn green, a pint of guiness lands in your hand, and a harp in the other.

You'l know you've crossed the border when you suddenly see loads of pots of gold and rainbows.

Also, you'l notice there are no snakes... St.Paddy got rid of them all ;)

Ok ok, seriously, nothing happens... there is no border control or anything, itsjust one minute your in the north and the next you're in the south, you dont notice, apart from road signs changing colour.

There is no such thing as a northern irish citizen, they are also UK citizens! So no you wont need a passport.

  8. what border?           ireland unfree shall never be at peace.

  9. you don't need a passport to travel between european countrys

    EDIT:

    check this link :-

    http://europa.eu/abc/travel/doc/index_en...

"It is best to have your passport or ID card when travelling in the EU because you may be required to prove your identity. If public order or national security so require, checks at the internal borders may be carried out for limited periods"

you only need ID when passport is metion in this link in regards to internal travelling it is used as Identification - a driving licence would serve the same purpose!

  10. Absolutely nothing happens!  Went there last year - zig-zagged back and forth between NI and the Republic - road signs went back and forth from MPH to KPH and stores took only Euros or Pounds depending, but other than that you are free to travel in and out as much as you like.  Carry your passport just in case, but you should have no problems.

Pay attention - if you go to England and have leftover "pounds" from Northern Ireland, they will look at you funny, cause it's not "their"money (it will probably say "Bank of Ireland"), but they have to take it!!  I don't why they should make a fuss, it still has the Queen on it!

  11. Yeah, nothing happens. There's no border control or anything. The road signs change from miles to kilometres. That's about it.

Except for the mandatory leprechaun you have to affix to the roof of your car, of course.

    EDIT____________________________

You DON'T need a passport to travel between EU countries that are signatories to the Schengen agreement . These are the EU countries excluding Ireland and the UK and you can get a full list on the europa website given by another poster above. Nor do you need a passport when travelling between the UK and Ireland, we have our own agreement which means passports are not necessary. When travelling from the UK or Ireland to other EU countries, it is advisable (though not strictly necessary) to have your passport. Other official forms of ID will do, such as a national ID card (but this is irrelevant, as neither the UK or Ireland uses one).

HOWEVER, flight operators and ferry companies have their own rules and regulations due to security restrictions, and will often only accept passports as proof of identification. So although by law you may not need to have a passport, the requirements of private companies mean that it is always advisable to carry your passport when travelling between states. We do not have any other standard form of ID card the way that the Germans etc do and a passport is the best ID there is. I have found ferry companies rarely require more than a driving licence.

Btw, a citizen of Northern Ireland IS a citizen of the UK...

  12. You just pay a toll, or not. It depends which route You take.

  13. Seamus has the best answer. That is exactly the way it is. There is no phyical border anymore.

every week 100's of oil tankers drive fuel across the border illegally. Governments both sides turn a blind eye for the sake of the "peace process"

  14. if your a good swimmer ,become irish, win a gold, then your welcome. god knows we need all the help we can get.

  15. nothing happen you just get a text rom your mobile network saying welcome to ireland have a nice stay. no passport asked for, no barrier just a shop called the crossan border shop and if you are being chased by the psni they have to stop cause they have no power over you in ireland

  16. all borders are open. So if you are a drug dealer or human trafficer or smuggler you will have no problems whatsoever.

  17. nothing happens, i cross the border everyday, sometimes i dont even realise that i have crossed it.

  18. yeah you can just walk across..no big deal

the difference is prices are in sterling and road signs are in miles per hour

i live right on the border and we go to the north all the time

  19. You'd better watch out for the snipers

  20. The only thing that will happen when you cross the border is the roads get worse and the price of everything goes up.

  21. Nothing happens, you just walk across the border. I've been the Republic several times during my life and I'm a UK (belfast born) citizen, long before I had even gotten my first passport.

But you do need to have a passport if you travelling to other EU countries. You can go between the England, Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland without a passport, you should be able to go to Republic of Ireland as well if you visit from England, Scotland or Walkes by ferry.

As I said, a passport will be needed if you're to fly or visit other EU countries, you just don't need a visa. For example, my passport says European Union and United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, so mine is a UK EU passport so I can go to other EU countries to visit without having to apply for a visa or any other special forms, and as an EU passport holder I can also visit a stack of other countries without a visa, some for limit times (three months) and some for as long as I want.

This also includes the US, but they use the Visa Waiver Program, which allows friendly nations (such as EU countries) to visit for 90 days while making sure they are coming for visits or business trips, and to basically protect themselves from hundreds or thousands of people visiting the country without a visa and trying to stay for good.

  22. no that isn't true!! you need 1 if you are going to france anyway from ireland even if your on the boat!!! you don't need 1 from ireland to england scotland and wales!!!(uk lyk) !!!!

  23. no, if you live in North of Ireland, you can just go across the border to the ROI, no problem at all, you do not ned a passport. if you live in the UK, you would need a passport to get over to ireland, or if not a passport a license should work. to travel to other countries you do need a passport!

    hope i helped!!

  24. Aside from what the others say, you also have to use Euro's rather than Sterling

  25. You get you pockets picked (for Euro)

  26. We're all part of Europe now. There are no border checks.
