What happens in Specials by Scott Westerfeld?

I've read Uglies, Pretties, and specials but I haven't read Extras yet. I've been waiting for it to become available. Now I have finally been able to get my hands on a copy but I cant remember what happens in Specials. Any Help?!

Well, to start off, Tally becomes a Special. She now scorns her previous life and has dedicated her life to weeding out the New Smoke. Soon she sees Zane and David, her old boyfriends, and she starts to question herself. Then she goes to this city for one of her jobs because the New Smoke is there. Things start getting blown up, and in the middle of this Zane dies. Soon, the Specials deplete, and Tally is the only one left. She realizes what is happening to her world and decides to go off with David. Together they decide that they will be the protectors of nature, and they will try to keep the people from ruining the world more.

Also, you don't really have to remember anything from Specials to read Extras. It has a totally different character, and the plot is different too.
