  1. When matter changes its state, say from Ice to Water.

    (that is, solid to liquid)

    The molecules change their "packaging" and get loosened.

    as we know that in solids, the molecules are more closely packed than the liquids,

    hence, during the process of physical change, the molecules in a particular state of matter change their pattern of packaging together..
