  1. Listen to your Sifu She sounds very wise. You would do well to follow her example. The best fight is the one you didn't have.

  2. Well from experience, had couple of high school fights...It all goes by fast, you dont feel the punches and also no pain. When you know you are in a fight always go for it first cause they usually get lost wen they get punched, did it couple of times, happend to me also.

  3. Fighting on the street is NOTHING like a Dojo fight. It's basically brawling, people swing their fists at each other then the first one to knock the other person down stomps on them a bit. You get more punches straight to the front of the head or to the gut.

Sometimes one party piles on top of the other, they both go down and then it's basically scrabbling around in the dirt trying to hit the other person's head against the ground or to choke them.

It's all very unskilled and very undignified. Unfortunately it's also very easy for a skilled martial arts fighter to get caught out and taken down because they are trying to play by Dojo rules, when the other guy isn't (Basically, most martial arts fighters are taught to spar, not to actually injure an opponent).

You might think that you are good because you are good in the Dojo, but in a Dojo you don't have to worry about somebody head butting you, or biting you, or spitting in your eye. You have to fight differently in real life and to forget many of the moves that you would do during training as they will put you in a brawler's kill zone, which Aikido isn't designed to counter and which brawlers are often experienced at.

My personal advice is to keep your distance. Don't both trying locks or holds except as a finishing move once the other guy is tired out. Stay long. Throw long ranged kicks at their head to keep the other guy off balance and use them as a cover to get close to attack the shins and abdomen with kicks or punches up and under the rib cage. Once their movement is impaired go for the head to finish them off.

Attack the nose and the mouth for fear effect (it makes them bleed, this puts them off) and the underside of the jaw or the side of the head for take down.

If you do get caught in a close range fight, hammer them as fast as possible to the nose, side of the head, rib cage and abdomen. Lots of blows very fast. Speed rather than power. Don't bother thinking about a single take down move. Give them as little chance to fight back as possible and keep them off balance. Then when the are confused and their guard is down, go for the knockout. Only try to do a hold if you can twist their shoulder out of the socket. If the hold does no damage they will be fighting made when you let go, and you will eventually have to let go.

If they've got a weapon you're best off out of it. Don't chance it. It's 100% not worth the risk. Bluff them out, keep your distance and tire the out by evading them. Don't try to kick a knife out of somebody's hand like they do on the movies, the risk of them cutting you is too high, then you're down to one fully functional leg. It's better to hit them with a bar stool than to try to kick a knife out of their hand.

Better, yet, avoid the fight all together. Or just Mace them.

  4. People get seriously hurt,

People keep on pounding on an already defeated opponent,

    People face criminal charges,

    People get killed...

    often for no discernible reason!

  5. **** gets ****** up. thats what happens. ive seen horrible **** go down, people get cut with bottles, broken bones, stomped into pulp. ive survived it all, fighting until getting the **** out of there or running at the start. no shame in it, like i said its no joke and i survived some scary **** by doing it.    i too studied aikido and no doubt youre good but forget it when fists and bottles fly.
