What happens in an eye exam these days?

i had one when i was in 7th grade and i'm just wondering if things are different now. i'm just nervous about that air puff thing ha, it always scared me :| do they still do that or something else?

  1. Yes, some places still do the eye puff thing (Although I've talked to my boyfriend and he says they don't do it where he goes).

    I hate it too!! I swear they always have to do it at least twice on me to get me to keep my eyes open : (

    Other than that they just do some other easy tests, the peripheral exam where you click the button when you see the little dot of light come up, they do the switching lens and asking you to read the letters. Nothing too bad.


  2. Many places use the "puff" test.  There are alternatives if you are apprehensive.  Each of the others includes placing numbing drops into your eyes and applying an intrument to the surface to measure the pressure.  I prefer this, myself.  It's  less obnoxious than waiting for the puff!

  3. The "air puff thing" is to test for glaucoma, abnormal pressure in the eye, from which you could go blind. There are other ways.  7th grade means 12 years old.  Grow up, kiddo.

    Then you are even older.  Grow up more.
