Does anyone know the statistics of how many minors are caught driving between 11 PM and 5 AM in CA? I know that cops can't pull over someone just because they look young, but if someone was speeding... how likely is it that you'll get in trouble? What will happen?

  1. You are mistaken that we can't pull someone over just because they look too young.  If I see someone who looks twelve driving a car, I can and do pull it over.  Sometimes they're 17 and sometimes they're twelve.

I don't know how to answer some of your question.  I can't tell you what happens because I'm not at every single stop of a young person in this state.  I can tell you what is allowed to happen:

    Warn the kid

    Cite the kid

Call the kid's parents (to include following whatever directions the parents give, like locking the car and taking the kid to the police department).

Any of those things are possible.

Nobody knows what the statistics are because those statistics are not kept.  There's also no way to know how many kids get stopped and warned because there is no paper trail for that kind of violation.

What *if* someone was speeding?  If someone was speeding and got pulled over between eleven at night and five in the morning and they shouldn't have been driving, then see above.  There's no way I can tell you how likely it is that you'll get into trouble.
