I'm going to a new school (grade 11) and I'm incredibly scared. I've only been in small schools homeschooling until now, and they didn't work like a reg. high school.

So, for those of you who know how it works, can you help me out by giving me an outline of what happens on the first day at your school? I'm really nervous about finding classes and picking seats, lol.

Also, does everyone take backpacks and supplies on the first day? when I was in elementary I always managed to take my stuff on the wrong day and look stupid. Please help me!

  1. Just go to your class.  Most people in high school take backpacks to school.  The first day of school is very easy.  You barely have to do anything.  Sometimes teachers make you do some works, but usually they just talk the period.  And whatever you do, DON'T BE SELF CONSCIOUS!  Just walk around like you own the place and you'll look cool.  Don't worry.

  2. First day is pretty easy.  Teachers go over rules, what you will need, maybe get your textbooks, and sometimes they'll talk about an upcoming event.  They also like to know what you did over the summer, what your like, what's your name, etc. (Don't worry, not every teacher does this, and if they do, every student has to participate).  Some teachers let you pick seats, others have seating charts.  Finding classes is simple, just get a map of the school and plan it out before you get there.

A lot of people take backpacks, and maybe a binder or notebook with a couple of writing utensils.  No need to take every school supply you get.

  3. The first day I think everyone is a little nervous, or just bored really.  The first is usually extremely tedious and boring.  :[  Usually you do take a backpack with maybe a notebook and pencil.  the teachers tell you what you need for the class later (supplies) so then they will give you a deadline by when you need it.

teachers usually hand out course disclosures and rules of their classroom the first day.  i suggest going to your school a couple days before school starts and wander around and get used to everything.  it should be open.

the first day of school is often nerve-wracking for everyone.  but, it's pretty boring in reality and maybe the toughest thing you have to do is find your classes and fill out papers about yourself.  teachers are pretty leniant with tardy on the first two days though, they will help you out if you get lost!

    good luck!

  4. CALM DOWN

    :-)

The first day of school you go to your homeroom, which is where you'll start your day everyday for the rest of the year. They will give you a schedule of your classes, and locker # and combo. You'll then go to all your classes. On the first day you usually don't do work because your new teachers outline and describe what the class is about.

    WAIT TO BUY YOUR SUPPLIES.

The first day teachers will give you a syllabus with the class expectations and what you need for their specific class.

On the first day, i would suggest just take a notebook to write some notes down and some pens and pencils.

The first day can be stressful but it'll get easier as the week goes by :-)
