What happens to a TV w/o a stabilizer when there is a sudden high voltage surge?

  1. The only thing that normally blows is the fuse, the regulator IC and sometimes if it's a LONG surge, like 220VV on a 110 line, it can pop the DC filtering cap and the rectifier...

    With lightning, it can take out the tuner....

    But the rest of the TV set is actually protected by the power supply design and the Regulator IC and the isolation transformer...

    We don't get as much damage on these newer TV sets, like the old Transformer only TV sets....


  2. If TV is of High Brand the fuse of power supply will blow off else the power supply will. Surge is also not good for the general circuitry including picture tube.
