Question:

What happens to alcohol placed in an oven?

If I were to place a metal baking pan in the oven with some sort of alcoholic beverage lining the bottom of the pan what would happen? Would it cause the alcohol to catch fire and leave burn marks in the oven or would it be uneventful, as the alcohol evaporates.

I know what happens when using alcohol on the stove top, but what about in the oven?

  1. In an enclosed oven, the alcohol will vaporise out of the beverage and, if the temperature is high enough, it could explode depending on how much alcohol is present....

    Not recommended.

  2. people use alcohol in different dishes all the time. i made a tuna casoral with a little bit of beer and lemon sauce to give it flavor and nothing happened. i've heard that some cakes depend on the taste of wine.

  3. (Assuming that alcohol is drinking alcohol or Ethanol)

It will probably just evaporate, but if there is a high enough concentration of the vapor, it may spontaneously combust.

  4. I guess there is only one way to find out...
