Question:

What happens to all of our battery powered TV's when TV goes digital?

I'm pretty sure we'll all have to throw them all out, even the cool little handheld types. What a waste for our environment!

And does anyone know--What will people do on camping trips etc now?

  1. what are you gonna do, carry around a full size dvd player?  they come with built in screens and rechargeable batteries these days.

  2. Yep.  Trash.  Unless they can be hooked up to one of those converter boxes or a cable signal.  You could also use it as a screen for watching DVD's on.

    Enjoy Nature?

Portable TVs with digital tuners start at about $150.

There are converter boxes that can be modified to run on battery packs, so if the portable has A/V jacks or an external antenna connector to rig it for portable operation. That's getting pretty heavy/large for backpacking.

Of course, these days most people just drive up to their camping site, so you could just use one of those cheap inverters that plug into your 12 Volt jack to power the TV and the converter.
