What happens to all the stuff they confiscate at airport security checkpoints?

they have stores where they sell it all, and they sell all the stuff they get from lost luggage.

I believe after a certain period of time, they are auctioned off.

Certain items like scissors are donated. other things are prabably taken home or thrown away. They took away my scissors!! Who is going to threaten somebody with scissors seriously. Everyone is paranoid already they would probably mug the guy!!

They toss some of it, but they also send a lot of unclaimed items to surplus resellers.  Here's a list:

they put them in storage places and if their not taken out in certain amount of time they get sold or given to place were they can use the stuff
