  2. If the solution has high water potential water will move into the cell.  The cell will swell up and possibly lyse (break open) if the membrane breaks, depending on how high the water potential is.

    In a solution of low water potential, water will move out of the cell into the solution.  The cell will shrivel up and probably die.
