  3. he stay with thier familyz

  4. There is a system for them once they are over the age of 18.  There are special programs for them, group homes, and they have social security and medicaid and all kinds of services.  Check out www.thearc.org and http://www1.dshs.wa.gov/DDD/eligible.sht...

  5. Turning 18 doesn't eliminate their special needs.  If they needed help living their lives before, they will continue to need help from family, friends or government agencies.  Unfortunately, as special needs people age, so do their relatives, and eventually parents and other care-giving relatives can no longer provide care.  Which often means institutionalizing the people.

  6. many stay in public school through age 21--

than they get help from social services-anything from independent employment to a sheltered workshop job.

some go to medical day care.

they rely heavily on their families if they cannot live independently.

Many move into group homes/independent living supervised apartments when their parents can't take care of tehm any more

some go to college or vocational programs
