Question:

What happens to balloons after they go up in the sky? And if they pop what happens to the debris?

  1. They get so far up and then the pressure changes cause (depending on what the balloon is made of) the balloon either loose air or stop rising. The debris simply falls to the ground.

    I wasn't going to answer this question but what got my attention was your name. LMAO, I LOVE IT!!

Sealed balloons may burst if their load is light enough so they can rise into reduced pressure while still rising and the rubber gives out.    If the load keeps them from rising that high, then they gradually lose gas and come down slowly.  Helium and hydrogen are small molecule gases and permiate through most "air tight" materials.

      Balloons carrying instrumentation are normally hung from parachutes and cut free before the balloon gives out, in which case the balloon rises, bursts or loses all gas and flutters to earth.

      The monster mylar balloons that start as a bubble of gas at the top of a long envelope and inflate to a huge ball at 50-60 thousand feet normally rise further and shred in the high winds after dropping their instrumentation.
