  1. Only 30-40 % of energy is used from glucose to make ATP. Most (60-70%) is lost as heat. Once the heat reaches the skin in humans, it can be transferred to the external environment in one of four ways: conduction and convection (20% total), evaporation (20%), and radiation (60%).


  2. The energy is transferred as heat into the environment. The cell then is able maintain a constant temperature for optimum growth.
