  1. Under the soldier act as long as you have orders any lease of rental is moot upon orders to serve your country. Alls you have to do is give your landlord a copy of your orders and make sure you give them heads up.

  2. Talk to your apartment manager.  They might let you out of the lease.  Since you are joining voluntarily, they don't have to.

  3. You have to contact your land lord. If you didn't have a military clause in it, you may still be responsible for the full rent or cost of breaking the lease.

Most land lords will break the lease if you tell them 30 days in advance. If you haven't broke anything or messed it up you should be able to get your deposit back.

If you joined the reserve and are planing on returning you will still need to talk to your land lord to arrange payment while you are gone. Let them know so they don't think you abandoned the property.

I have never had a pro-rated rent. Some apartments offer military discounts. But they want your money. They know that you get BAH and the military pays your rent. Most land lords that have rented to military are savvy about that.

  4. They will not charge you due to you joining the military.
