What happens to prisoners when they get sick?

If it is a state or federal prison they have their own hospital where they are treated.

IF it is a local jail then they are taken to a hospital that has  been approved for this and they are guarded .

The nurses and doctors treat them.

Most jails have a clinic for things that do not require hospitalization. They are treated there and returned to their cell.
