What happens to target cell receptors when no or low hormone is being produced?

i believe the target cell would produce more receptors of that hormone because there so little of it but on the other hand maybe the receptors are being destroyed by other hormones because of antagonism consequences

  1. When there is low hormone release, there is a down-regulation or a decrease in number of target cell receptors because they are not being used. (If you don't use it (receptors), you lose it!)
