After the 2034 Indianapolis 500 the Borg-Warner Trophy will be full. Do you think that tradition will prevail and a new Borg-Warner issued, or will the new trophy's sponsorship be offered to the highest bidder?

  1. they will do what they do with the Stanley Cup is remove some and add some

  2. they will extend the base most likely

  3. They will probably expand the base again like they did in 2004.

  4. they will create a replica

  5. I will be willing to bet one of 2 things will happen:

    1.  They will extend the base again to another couple of rows.

    2.  My preferred guess.  They will retire the current base and keep it in the museum.  Then they can create a new "blank" base, and begin pseudo-fresh.

Mind you - this is just a guess.  It's an educated guess, as I base it on what they currently do with the NHL's Stanley Cup.  Each team (and each player) that wins the Cup each season is engraved.  That engraving is now on a ring that surrounds the cup.  When the ring becomes full, the oldest ring is retired, and kept in the NHL Hall Of Fame, and a new ring is started.

Remember - the Borg-Warner trophy is the 2nd oldest trophy in sports behind the Stanley Cup, so I can see it doing the same.

Again - just a guess ... guess we'll have to watch what happens in 20+ years.  I'd be willing to bet they'll have a plan in place long beforehand.
