Do you mean the fuels made from crop like e.g. palm oil or corn? They are so environmentally friendly because the CO2 emissions they release are the ones the plants had filtered out of the atmosphere before. So they equal themselves out.

But there are disadvantages. Most of these fuels are produced from maze and palm oil. The sudden high demand from the US in maze due to Bush's policy change has led to its price to shoot up and large numbers of poor people in Mexico, who use tortillas as their main source of food, have demonstrated against the price increase.

The demand in palm oil has led to criminal gangs burning down large parts of the South American rain forest to plant the palm trees. The same happens in many other tropical areas across the world, but the gangs in South America are the most violent, when pushing people off their land, often killing and raping on their way.

This is the reason why many green campaigners are actually against these types of alternative fuels, but so far the G8 governments have failed to address this issue effectively.

corn is not efficient , sugar cain and seaweed are a better sorce. with sugar cain it grows faster yeilds more sugar. brazil or any tropical country with proper rainfall and temature can grow this stuff if south america and other tropical regons desided to undertake this we wouldnt need fosil fuels . brazil runs most of its cars and energys platforms of of water and ethonol there is some potential with seaweed too. the ocean is vast and there are sertain strains of plant that can be used. they have been offering to do this for us and others for years but our corupt government wont budge on this untill we are pushed against the wallls energy wise. they say bush has sighned a deal with brazil to increase its growth to help our power needs but I wouldnt hold your brethe. no ones going to let the world end that easyly. everyone in power want a desent life too when it starts to effect them you will all of the sudden see alot of problem being solved . if we can land on the moon we can save the bees and we can also get the energy we need.
