What happens to the rest of my Pell Grant if...?

I have fully qualified for the Pell grant, $4,500 or something like that. If I was to say, go to a community college for about $2,700, what happens to the rest? Do they just not give me the full amount I am eligible for since I don't need it or does it go to me or what? Thanks for your time.

  1. If your school allows for XS funds, you will receive that money in a check.  If they do not, the money will be returned to the DoE.

As for your second question, about applying for more grants, a school can only certify funding up to your cost of tuition.  Now, there are several small categories that can be juggled a little to help a student receive XS funds, but I doubt your school will take the time to do that if you are already receiving an XS funds pool.  Money like that comes from sources hoping to help sponsor people through school, not get them to community college on 24" rims.

    Good Luck

  2. YOU'LL GET A CHECK BACK AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER....MY FRIENDS ALWAYS GOT MONEY BACK FROM THEIR FIN. AID.
