Not looking for opinions about the matter. Just asking if the marriages will be legally valid and binding (since they are legal currently) or if they will be nullified if the proposition passes.

  1. I'm not certain, but I do know that regardless, they are only recognized as legal in the state that they were married, and perhaps in other states that allow same s*x marriage.  I am in a traditional male/female marriage, and if I moved cross country, or even overseas, I am still legally married.  That must be weird, to know that in 47 or 48 out of 50 states, your marriage isn't valid (or considered valid).  I know you aren't looking for opinions, but in mine, the whole concept of marriage is weird.  Why do I need a foreign body outside of our couple (either the church, or the state) to tell me whether or not my commitment is legitimate?  It seems like a private matter to me.

  2. Jerry Brown, the state attorney general, said they will probably still be valid; the language of the proposed amendment does not say anything about nullifying existing marriages

If so, that means that three classes of marriage status would exist in Calif.: marriage as a special right reserved for heterosexuals only; marriages specifically forbidden from taking place thanks to bedrock law barring g**s and lesbians from wedding the person of their choice; and the marriages of g**s and lesbians whose legal unions would be grandfathered in, remaining legal despite the change in the state’s constitution.
