What happens to the sos sign?

i was wondering..when people make large sos signs out of sticks and stones..do they clear it up when they get rescued? do they say "thanks for rescuing me and all, im just gonna destroy my sos sign"? or do they just leave it for kind helicopters to fly down and try and rescue people who arent there?

Perhaps procedure of rescuers is to go back and do a sweep of the area to make sure no one else is left. then they destroy or fix the SOS sign

My suspiscions are that it doesn't happen often so SOS signs are an unlikely thing to find. But i would say that over time i expect the signs would be washed or blown away by the wind and rain, or even the sea depending on where it actually is. If not it might be protocol for rescuers/investigators to remove the signs.

Usually people make them with sticks, and then burn it therefore leaving nothing but ashes to be blown away
