I realize this may seem like a strange question, but all I see on TV, and all I hear and read about are those athletes who have realized their dream of winning a(nother) medal. Of course, I don't expect reports and articles on the vast majority of athletes who don't get to stand on the podium, but I want to know their story. So, what happens to all those professional athletes who don't win any medals or awards? After devoting the better part of their adult life to excelling in a profession which they, for health reasons, often cannot carry out after the age of 30 or 35, what do they do with the rest of their lives? Any personal experiences or insights would be appreciated.

  1. they become coaches

  2. Some are lucky enough to coach at some level whether its high school or the pros. There are some who have been victims of bad investments and ended up literally sleeping under a bridge like former Houston Astros ace J.R. Richards.
