If you take your clothes to a Charity Shop, they will sort them and any not suitable for sale will be sold to the rag man.  These are then resorted into different categories, some are sold abroad, some cotton to the motor trade for oil rags and some is shredded etc., etc.

If you know they are unfit to sell just let them know and they can sell it all on to the rag merchant.
