  1. they are purchased at auction w/ proceeds going to the raiser of the animal.  highest bidder who buys the animal can eat it, breed it or whatever.....

  2. They are turned into some good ol' fashioned grub.

  3. The owners take them back to their farms (home).

  4. It depends on if it is a "market" animal.....Market animals are raised for meat.  Market lambs, market steers, market hogs.... they are sold in an auction, but the kid gets to keep the animal and the $ too.... they are usually not "terminal" sales... some are, if it is a "terminal sale", then the kid does not get to keep the animal, the animal is then sent to slaughter. If the kid keeps the animal, it does usually end up on someones dinner plate. The animals are so fat that time can not go on any longer, they have a hard time walking from being so heavy.

Now for breeding animals.... Grand Champion Heifer & such, they go back to the farm & raise babies.

4-h chicken, go back to the farm and lay eggs or are sold to people that keep them for layers too.

  5. I was not involved with a 4-H show specifically but, as an FFA alumnus I can give you some insight as to what happens as I showed hogs in a live stock show for many years.

It depends on what the shower wants to do with them.

Sometimes there are other livestock shows that the animal will be shown in. After the shows are over they may be turned into breeding stock...the better the parents look the better the young will look. However, if  they were initially raised for the meat then they will be off to the butcher.

Sometimes a person chooses to sell the hog to someone else. That buyer may use it for breeding purposes or they may choose to have it butchered for the meat.

  6. They are sacrificed to make a huge barbecue at the end of the fair.

  7. It depends on what animals are being shown.  The most common 4H show animals are finished steers.  There are usually several shows they will show in.  The local county fair they will be shown and taken home.  There is always the terminal show, usually the State fair, where the animals will be auctioned off at the end of the sale.  They almost always go to the butcher.  The winning steers will bring a much higher price than market price.  They will be bid in by a restaurant or super market as a form of advertising.  You can always choose not to sell them, but they can't be used for breeding, and most 4H children can't afford not to sell and keep a 2 or 3 thousand dollar pet.

  8. They're taken back home after the fair.

  9. Some are kept for breeding. Other are used for meat

  10. The so called "sale" which happens after the show is where companies "buy" the animal but actually the owner keeps the animal and uses the money to pay for feed costs usually. Later the animal will really be sold or kept to breed like sheep and cattle, pigs are usually slaughtered.

  11. depends.....they could be sold at the auction, they can show them more, they could take home and breed or just raise, or they could be a good steak, chop, or other cut of meat

  12. Where I come from they are sold for an extra high price and butchered.
