What happens when a prince marries below him?

When a prince marries a Lady, or more specifically, the daughter of a Duke, what happens to his title? As well as hers? Does she become princess or queen, or keep her title? Is his title lowered?

Nothing would happen to him.  What she gets called is up to him and his family.  Sort of like any other family on Earth lol :-)

A wife takes her title from her husband, so in this case she would become a princess. It does nothing to affect his title.

If the wife is a princess and marries someone below her in rank, she keeps her title. Princess Margaret kept her title, though she married a commoner. However, her husband does not take his title from hers, so he remains a commoner.

sophie, married to prince edward, is the daughter of 'commoners' and has the title countess of wessex. i think it depends on the couple and what the queen wants to call them.

If a Prince marries a commoner or below him, well work it out - Prince Andrew married Sarah Ferguson, a commoner, Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer (technically a commoner) Prince Edward married Sophie Rhys-Jones, a commoner.

The Queen, then Princess Elizabeth, married Philip Mountbatten (who had relinquished all his royal titles).

Nothing happens to his title.Princes Charles,Edward and Andrew all married commoners,and they all retain their titles,even receiving new titles upon marriage. Andrew became the Duke of York and his now ex-wife Sarah Ferguson became Princess Andrew,Duchess of York.Edward became the Earl of Wessex,so his wife,Sophie is Princess Edward,Countess of Wessex.

Lady Diana Spencer,upon her marriage to the Prince of Wales assumed all of her husband's titles but did not lose her personal title.

The present Queen's sister and daughter both married commoners as well and retained their royal titles;Margaret's then husband was given a title Earl Snowdon,but Anne's husbands both refused titles.The two women remained princesses;Anne even received the added honor of Princess Royal,being the eldest daughter of a monarch.
