What happens when astronomers run out of creation deities?

My understanding is that IAU regulations on the naming of classical Kuiper belt objects is that they must be named after creation deities, hence 2005 FY9 was renamed from 'easterbunny' to 'Makemake'. My question is what happens when there are no more creation deities to name them for? Or is it that there aren't likely to be that many more plutoid bodies discovered?

  1. They can always change the rules and name them after movie star's kids.  Like Knox.

  2. They don't name objects by creation deities, but mythological figures related to creation in general. Eris for example is no creation deity. The chance that they run out of them, is slim.

  3. Okay!  I am looking forward to the Flying Spaghetti Monster classical Kuiper Belt Object.

Don't worry.  How could we ever run out of kooks to dream up new creation deities?

  4. There are thousands of gods in various human religions, and I bet they're being invented faster than large, namable Kuiper belt objects are being discovered.  Maybe someday we'll start using even Scientology names (the dwarf planet Xenu).
